Auditions

Auditions for The Dance Company are held every spring. To audition, dancers must be at least 8 years old by September 1 for the year in which they are auditioning. Each dancer must have a minimum of one year of ballet instruction.

If accepted, dancers will be placed into one of four levels: Principle, Soloist, Ensemble or Junior Company. The Dance Company members are expected to attend weekly rehearsals and all productions or performances, as well as be enrolled in one ballet class and one additional dance class.

The Dance Company accepts dancers from any studio.

Dancers should wear traditional dancewear, including leotard, tights and booty shorts or short ballet skirt. Ballet shoes are suggested; toe shoes and jazz shoes may be required for certain levels.
In addition to dancewear, shoes and the application, dancers may want to bring a notebook/pencil to take notes on choreography. Water and healthy snacks are provided by the The Dance Company Guild, but you may want to bring your own.
Each dancer (minors require a parent signature) must complete an audition form and is then provided with a number to pin to his/her leotard. Dancers are then taught several pieces of choreography for ballet, jazz and character dances. They must also do the splits and a small speaking role. Dancers are given time to rehearse, then complete the auditions in small groups.

Dancers will be notfied of their acceptance and placement with 10 days after the audition. Contracts and fees are due in June for the upcoming season.
The panel includes the artistic director, show director and several other people who have dance experience such as local instructors and/or former members of The Dance Company who do not have connections to anyone auditioning.
Dancers should plan on being on site for approximately three hours. Time will vary depending upon which group the dancer is in.
Auditions are closed to the public. Only the dancers and judges are allowed in the studio during auditions.
No. Auditions are open to all dancers. No appointment is necessary.
